Who we are

New Culture Foundation

is a non-governmental private organization registered 2003 in Sofia(Bulgaria) and working as an interdisciplinary network of journalists, artists, writers, new media designers and volunteers in Bela Rechka, Northwestern Bulgaria (Varshetz municipality).


Main goals:

developing Bela Rechka and the Northwestern region through cultural activities, working with memory and offering a new space for multicultural dialogue on memory by meeting worlds that usually do not mix at all - artistic and new scientific approaches, new Ðnd old media, European and local traditions collecting personal stories organizing multicultural events

Values:

Everybody has the right of culture and the right to express it in their own way.
Everybody is Ð creator of their own identity
Memory is a powerful tool for “healing” stereotypes


What is new culture?

New culture might be just e metaphor. If culture is how we play roles than “new culture” just reminds us how drastically the diversity of our roles has expanded. This is nice, indeed, but also striking. Because, if we play so many roles, who are we, at the end?

To answer this question we need to develop, a little bit more, our cultural sensitivity.

What is cultural sensitivity?

Cultural sensitivity is the ability to feel and become aware that part of the roles we play have their roots in the context where we have lived and live. In this sense, all of us represent a totality of different contexts that have imposed different roles upon us. It seems, at least, that in order to become true creators of new games with new rules and new roles, we have to become first aware of that.

Why do we need cultural sensitivity?

Because it gives us much more joy.

You start to communicate with others in a nicer and lighter way because you start to realize that they, as you, come from a concrete context, that they, as you, struggle to free themselves from a certain role, that they, as you, are searching for a role to make them inspired.
