HARVEST CELEBRATION 29-30 September 2018

New Culture Foundation and Slow Food Bela Rechka invite you to the fifth Harvest Celebration Weekend 29-30 September in Gorna Bela Rechka.

We invite you to celebrate and experience together the locals’ know-how in making the unique Northwest food. We will enjoy local products and tastes and buy local vegetables and freshly cooked goat milk cottage cheese, lutenitsa (chutney), bread, cheese, yellow cheese, jam, honey or dried herbs. Directly from the people who devoted their labor, attention and love in growing and preparing the food.

Slow Food goat milk cottage cheese tasting

With the participation of local people who make the unique goat milk cottage cheese following recipes from their mothers and grandmothers. We will try different types of curd. We will experiment with old and new ways of preparing. And we’ll get to know the personal story behind every jar.

Rolling of pastry sheets (obgi) with Mariana

Obgi are the sheets, rolled by hand and roasted on a real fire to make banitsa (pastry) typical only for the Northwest. We will knead the dough, roll the sheets with a rolling pin, roast them on a wood burning stove and layer the banitsa. Every participant will make his own obga, take some and taste the ready banitsa.

Home-made yellow cheese (paneer) workshop with Galya

Paneer is an ancient and simple method of making cheese or soft cheese at home. The people of Bela Rechka know this method well. Everyone will be able to make his own paneer of goat’s or cow’s milk, experiment with different flavors, taste the ready product and get his hand-made cheese at home.

The Singing Society of Bela Rechka with Diana and lelya Deshka

Since 15 years New Culture Foundation has been collecting traditional songs performed by the women from Bella Rechka. Participants will be able to learn 2 or 3 songs and sing them as a canon or polyphonic together with local women.

Local unique products, foods and tastes market

Fee to participate in a workshop 13BGN per person. Price per night – 15BGN per person.
The workshops are suitable for children and adults. For children up to 6 – free of charge. For children 6-12 years – 6lv. Participation in the singing society and the market is free.

HARVEST BELA RECHKA is part of “WALKING IN MY SHOES – a tailored – made tourism” – a long-term project of New Culture Foundation and Slow Food Bela Rechka. The main goal is to contribute to the tourism development of Montana region, focussed on individual guest and personal experience. Tourism attentive to the local people, raising the self-awareness their everyday activities are attractive to the tourists.

New Culture Foundation has been actively working in the field of personal history and has organized the of Goatmilk Festival of Memories since 2003. The projects initiated and developed explore nature, abandoned buildings, unique food, local customs and holidays, and recent history as possible circumstances for Montana region development.
